SELKIE

A 90 minute feature shot in South AUstralia in 1999 and released nationally by UIP in 2000

SELKIE is a contemporary, fantasy adventure aimed at 8 – 14 year-olds.   JAMIE McGREGOR, the hippest, coolest kid around – according to him!  But just recently he’s started flipping out – literally!  He’s turning into a seal!

Ever since Jamie’s last birthday he’s been feeling pretty weird.  Sure his mum has told him about the changes that occur with the onset of puberty – the raging hormones, the zits, the hairy outcrops, but nobody mentioned the other changes that are happening to him – the webbing growing between his fingers and toes, the canine molars that are getting so long he’s starting to look like Count Dracula, not to mention the craving for sea food – raw sea food!  But it’s the dreams that are scaring Jamie the most. They’re always the same – Jamie happily frolicking underwater with seals and dolphins, until a menacing shadow appears above, churning up the ocean before finally turning it blood red.   He inevitably finds himself on the floor tangled in his doona, gasping for air, trembling and dripping with sweat.  What does it all mean?

Selkie stars Shimon Moor, lead singer of the “Sick Puppies” and director of the extraordinariy popular youtube clip, “Free Hugs”.

A clip from the movie in which Jamie goes back in time and sees a Selkie emerge from the skin of a seal.
